Solar Maintenance in Wet Weather | Solar Electrical Safety Melbourne

Why Wet Weather Makes Solar Maintenance Even More Important

Solar panels are designed to operate outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain. However, wet weather can expose faults in a solar system that may go unnoticed during dry, sunny conditions.

At Solar Rescue, this is one of the reasons we recommend regular solar maintenance and electrical safety checks — not just solar panel cleaning.

Why Solar Faults Can Become More Serious in Wet Weather

A properly installed and maintained solar system should safely operate in the rain.

The problem begins when an installation has deteriorated or developed faults such as:

  • Damaged solar cabling
  • Cracked or poorly fitted DC connectors
  • Water entering electrical enclosures
  • Deteriorated isolators
  • Damaged conduit
  • Corroded electrical connections
  • Poorly terminated wiring
  • Damaged panels or junction boxes

When everything is dry, some of these faults may remain unnoticed.

Once water or moisture enters damaged electrical equipment, however, it can create leakage paths and insulation faults and may increase the risk of electrical faults, equipment failure or electric shock.

Rain Can Help Reveal Hidden Solar Problems

Customers often assume that if their solar system is producing electricity, everything must be fine.

Unfortunately, that’s not always the case.

Wet weather can sometimes trigger inverter fault codes, earth leakage faults or intermittent shutdowns that disappear again once the system dries out.

If your solar system regularly develops faults during or after rain, it shouldn’t simply be reset and forgotten.

It may be telling you there is an electrical problem that needs investigation.

Solar Maintenance Is More Than Cleaning Panels

Cleaning your solar panels is important for maintaining performance, but solar maintenance should also consider the electrical condition of the system.

Solar Rescue combines solar maintenance with electrical knowledge, allowing us to inspect areas including:

  • Solar panels and visible damage
  • DC cabling and connections
  • Isolators and electrical equipment
  • Conduit and cable protection
  • Inverter condition and fault history
  • Earthing
  • Switchboard connection
  • Signs of water ingress, corrosion or overheating

This is an important difference between using a qualified electrician experienced in solar maintenance and simply having someone clean the glass.
